First, let's dive into why Hemp Oil.  And what is this amazing oil all about?

As pet parents, we look for natural ways to keep our dogs or cats happy and healthy. One trend that has gained momentum is the use of Hemp seed oil.

 A side NOTE...

"Look at this lil dude," Hershey, "Who, absolutely "LOVES" scrunchies!"

His collection.

"Haylee and Hope made him into a scrunchie holder." LOL

He didn't seem to mind.

He likes to chew on them which in return helps to calm him. Some pets find certain toys or fabrics soothing. For Hershey, it's scrunchies.

Hershey has always been an anxious dog. And because of the way his disposition is he gets occasional back pain. I started him on Hemp oil in hopes of alleviating these symptoms.

It's been about two months since I started him on Hemp oil. He doesn't seem to want his scrunchie as much, or the time seems shorter. He's like a burst of energy without the pain.

End side note.

Have you seen symptoms like these before in your pet? You're not alone.

Firstly, Let's Explore What Hemp Seed Oil Is

What is Hemp Seed Oil?

Hemp seed oil is often called "nature's most perfectly balanced oil" due to its ideal ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acids (around 3:1). The oil is produced by cold-pressing hemp seeds

Hemp seed oil is packed with vitamins, including Vitamin E, minerals, antioxidants, and other nutrients that support a healthy immune system, skin, and coat.

Hemp seed oil is used widely in dietary supplements, skincare products, and pet wellness supplements. I am going to give you some ideas on how to deliver it through your pet treats and as a topper on their daily food.

So, What can Hemp Oil Do for your Pets?

  • Supports healthy skin and coat - rich in Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, which are essential for maintaining a shiny coat and healthy skin. If your pet suffers from dry inflamed skin. Hemp oil is your Go-To!
  • Reduces inflammation - Anti-inflammatory properties that may help reduce swelling and discomfort in aging pets with arthritis.
  • Boosts immune system - What a way to get a HUGE dose of antioxidants all in one, thus protecting your pet’s cells from damage and promoting a stronger immune system.
  • Improves digestion - Hemp oil can help regulate your pet's digestive system. It can alleviate constipation and promote healthier bowl movements.
  • Supports brain health - It’s a great addition to your pet’s diet to keep them sharp and calm.

 "This is amazing stuff!" 😍

So how can we get Hemp Oil to our Pets?

Here’s some great options :

  • Liquid Oil - This is the most common form of hemp seed oil, typically sold in small bottles with a dropper or pump. Read the bottle instructions. Start with a small dose and gradually work your way up. Liquid drops worked for me. I placed drops on my dog's Lamb & Blueberry wafer cookies. See my video below.👇
  • Hemp Oil Capsules are soft Gels - This mess-free option delivers a controlled dosage in every capsule. You can wrap the capsule in food for easy delivery.
  • Hemp-infused chews or treats - Many pet brands offer ready-made treats or chews infused with hemp seed oil. This is convenient when the time arises, such as stressful events or activities.
  • Topical Application - Some Hemp seed oils are made to be applied directly to the skin. These are usually combined with other soothing ingredients for skin or coat health

Important Tips for Administering Hemp Seed Oil to Pets

  1. Start Slowly: Begin with a low dose to see how your pet reacts, and gradually increase as needed based on your vet’s guidance.
  2. Consult Your Veterinarian: Before adding hemp seed oil to your pet’s diet, it’s a good idea to discuss it with your vet, especially if your pet has existing health conditions or is on medication.
  3. Storage: Store hemp seed oil in a cool, dark place to maintain its freshness, as light and heat can degrade its quality.

How to Choose the Right Hemp Oil for Your Dog’s Treats

When baking CBD-infused treats, it's important to choose the right Organic Hemp oil for your pet. Look for:

    • Full-spectrum or broad-spectrum CBD for the best benefits.
    • 3rd Party Lab-tested products to ensure safety and quality.
    • Hemp oils without additives, as some flavors may not be safe for dogs.
    • Customer reviews One of the best ways to choose a product is through customer reviews. Especially those from other pet owners. You get insights into how well the oil works.
    • Choose Trusted Brands You want a brand with a strong reputation, exceptional quality, transparency, and ethical sourcing

Hemp Oil Drizzled over your Pets food

    Ingredients:

    • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of Hemp Seed Oil (adjust according to your pet’s size) See bottle instructions. This Hemp Oil is safe for dogs and cats.
    • Your pets regular food.

    Instructions:

Place your pets food in their bowl. Drizzle the adjusted amount of Hemp oil according to the bottle's instructions, based on your pet's size. Mix well and serve. For my small dogs, I use 2-3 drops from the dropper. It's been working well for them. You can adjust slowly according to your dogs size and weight.

     Easy Frozen Hemp Oil Treats

    Ingredients:

    • 1/2 cup of pumpkin puree (unsweetened)
    • 1/4 cup of frozen blueberries (Optional)
    • 1/4 tsp of Hemp Seed Oil

    Instructions:

Place ingredients in a small bowl. Mix well. Spoon mixture into a pipping bag for easy deliverance into our fun shaped silicone molds. If you do not have a silicone mold, you can use an ice-cube tray.

Freeze up 2-4 hours or over night. Simply pop the frozen treats out and give them as a healthy snack. These bites are packed with fiber-rich ingredients that may help in digestion. I like to add one to their daily feeding and as a independent snack. Enjoy!

"Don't forget to check out our silicone bundle pack!" It includes everything you need to get started, making delicious, shaped snacks for your "fur babies".

As with any food, sensory, or toy product, it's advised to consult with your veterinarian before starting a new diet or snack implementation for your pet.  Some pets may have pre-existing health challenges.

    My Takeaway

It's important to select the right Hemp Seed Oil for your pet. I recommend looking beyond the label.

What I mean by that is, factors such as organic sourcing, cold-pressed extraction, and the presence of a Certificate of Analysis. You want to make sure that you are giving your pet a safe high quality product.
